Crashing after 1.0.2 Update

I have the Steam Windows version of Castle Story. After the 1.0.2 update, the game crashes after playing a game for a while. I have completely reinstalled Castle Story (Uninstalled via Steam, deleted "Castle Story" folder in Steam/steamapps/common", and deleted "Sauropod Studios"/"Castle Story" folders in AppData prior to reinstalling via Steam) and the problem persists.

According to each crash's output_log.txt file's stack trace, all crashes occur within the ntdll module's RtlUserThreadStart() function.

According to the error.log file created on each crash, all crashes so far occur due to an Access Violation (0xC0000005), but the module in which the initial kernel function call was made varies. So far the modules in which this has occurred are either "nvd3dumx.dll", "d3d9.dll", or more commonly "Castle Story.exe".

Does anyone know how to go about debugging the cause of something like this? Thanks in advance for any replies.

  • I have reason to believe the crash is caused by an Intel Graphics driver update windows updated pushed onto my system. I'm not using the Intel Graphics display adapter, but a driver for it was installed sometime today unbeknownst to me. It may have mucked up some graphics components.

Uninstalling and then reinstalling the Intel Graphics drivers as well as the nvidia drivers for my GTX 970 has not resolved the issue however.
  • Sorry to waste your time. I believe I've narrowed down the problem to an issue with a poor DIMM connection interestingly enough...
