So i saw that the new patch came out and with it steam intregated mutiplayer. So i figured that i would try it out with a friend of mine. Unfortunally when i press Host game and select map and all that stuff, right after it when i enter the "start" screen and press any button... the game dies and it takes steam with it. Its probably becasue the patch is new and it may have some buggs. But i was looking forward to playing the multiplayer. If anyone have any info on this or some kind of fix i would be happy to hear about it.

The fix that i have tried is to do a fresh install of the entire game, (remove anything related to Castle Story + reinstall) but this did not help...

Edit: Sorry if this is in the wrong section, did not know where to put it...

Edit: We're being told a temporary fix is to go to your Steam folder > Castle Story and run the game's .exe as an Administrator (right-click the .exe and Run as Administrator).

    Hey guys!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the multiplayer - that shouldn't happen. We're going to need some more info to help you out.

    - Which OS are you using?
    - Do you have any VPNs installed such as Hamachi, EvolveHQ, Tunngle, etc?
    - What kind of crash is it? Does it "freeze" your game/Steam or does it immediately close both without any errors?
    - Does it only happen with Workshop maps or even official ones? Or maybe only UGC ones?

    Thank you!

Both of us are on Windows 10 at the moment, and yes we have a VPN installed. The current VPN is tunngle (we did use hamachi before) although tunngle is not active for Castle Story, we have it for other games that require it so we have it, but its not being used. The maps that we are trying to play on are just the standard maps in the game, no workshop maps or anything like that. And the kind of crash that occurs is that the game freezes and the regular "do you want to close/wait box" appears. If you choose to close the game u have to launch up steam again once closed. If u choose to wait until the game responds it will eventually close down by itself after a couple of tries. Thats all the info i have, if you need more i would be happy to help.
  • Hey, I am having same bug. Except... I have windows 7 and allegedly it only happens on 10 :|

    Glorval,

This bug has nothing to do with your OS. It will happen regardless of whether you are on Windows 7 or Windows 10.

The temporary fix is to run the game through the .exe in your Steam folder, instead of through your Steam library. Go to your Steam folder > Castle Story and run the game's .exe as an Administrator (right-click the .exe and Run as Administrator).
  • Hm, and just saying the update released recently (Hasnt been said what it is) doesnt fix it either

Yeah, we tried a hotfix but it didn't work. We're actively working on that issue.
  • Really odd how it crashes steam too. It doesn't puzzle me that CS could crash when hosting. What does puzzle me massively is that when it crashes, so does steam. Didnt these crashes start happening after you could join friends games?
