No Sound.

I have just re-downloaded the game on Steam. I have no sound whatsoever. The mute all button is unchecked and all volumes are set at 100% in the options menu. Can anyone help?

    Do you have sound outside of Castle Story? In Youtube, music, etc?
  • yep, and all other games on steam.

    Hey Arinvadel, this is a pretty weird issue.

    Two things to try;
    1- complete, fresh reinstall. See this: https://sauropodstudio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/218389798-How-to-do-a-fresh-reinstall-of-Castle-Story-Crashes-Crash-
    2- try seeing if there are available Windows updates.
  • Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have already tried this,but I will again.
  • Still no sound at all.
  • I have decided to try and uninstall Steam completely and re-download everything, see if that helps.
    ill let you know how I get on.

    Hey Arinvadel, do let me know if that helps! I haven't forgotten about you, I was just out for the week-end.

    This is a very strange and unusual issue. Are you absolutely certain that in your sound mixer, Castle Story's volume isn't set down, or some other software is muting the game? I know some voice chat software will mute the sound of games to let you communicate easier.
  • I have no voice chat software, so cant be that. Fresh install didn't help. checking the mixer now.
  • It's weird because in my mixer, when I ping the system sounds column I hear a noise, but steam and CS make none.

    Does your Steam ping when you get a message or voice call on Steam?
  • i don't know how to check that

    Arinvadel, I've got an idea! Add me on Steam and I'll try to help you in real time. If we find a solution I'll update this thread. It'll be easier.

    Hey Arinvadel,

    I didn't get any messages from you on Steam yet but lets try something else;

    Launch the game and load a map. Once you've done that, close the game and go to your Castle Story folder. We need a file called "output_log.txt" - you can find it there;

    Steam/SteamApps/common/Castle Story/Castle Story_Data/output_log.txt

    If you can get me this file, I can have our devs look at it and it might help us figure out what the issue is.

    Thank you!
  • sorry I have been away, I will get to it and message you soon!
  • I just sent a friend request, I don't know how to message, also, I have the file, how would you like me to send it to you?

    Hey Arinvadel,

    I'll accept your friend request. :) Just double-click my name in your Steam friends' list to accept the friend request.

    Could you e-mail me the file to karl [at] sauropodstudio [dot] com ?

    Thank you :D
  • Nothing has worked I am afraid.

    Arinvadel, we can't seem to reproduce the issue on our own Windows 10 machines. Pretty darn confusing issue.

    Did you try installing the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 and Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2015?

  • yes, I downloaded and installed them both

    Hey Arinvadel, please message me on Steam. One of our devs has given me a way to try and find what is causing your sound issue. We'll have to use Teamviewer because I can't exactly give you a tutorial for it, but hopefully it'll explain once and for all why you're getting the issue.
  • I cant download teamviewer on to this PC

    Hey Arinvadel, sorry to hear that. We're unable to reproduce this issue in any way whatsoever on our Windows 10 machines. The only way we can help at this point is by installing debug tools on your machine to try and track the issue.
  • well that blows....

    Someone else has mentioned this issue via our support ticket. If anything works out with them I'll be sure to forward the info to you.
  • cheers

    Hey Arinvadel,

    A user on the Steam forums solved this very issue by installing the proper Visual C++ Redist as suggested on this thread. Are you sure you did it right?

    Arinvadel,

    I personally teamviewer'd into a user's computer, reinstall these two redists and it fixed their audio too.
