No games possible on Linux

I tried to start a new game today (CS 0.7.8, Ubuntu Linux 16.04) and no maps showed up on the map selector screen. None of my savegames shows up either.

  • I tried deleting and reinstalling the game, but the problem persists. It also applies to the Map Creator

    Hey Stenpett,

We tested Linux before the release and it was working fine, although we had a lingering issue with maps not loading, we thought it was fixed.

Can you check your available RAM when you launch the game?

Also, please send me a screenshot of the contents of your /info folder.

This is our highest priority and we are looking into it now. Very sorry about this and thank you for reporting it.
  • Here's a screenshot of my /info folder and the system monitor. Nothing out of the ordinary, as far as I know, but i'll leave the analysis to you.

As per the conversation with Shatojon on Steam, I'll note here that this error is not present on my other Linux rig (AMD Phenom II 965, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 1060, Ubuntu 16.04), only on my Lenovo Y510P laptop (i7-4700MQ, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia GT 750M, Ubuntu 16.04).

Uninstalling the game, manually deleting the game folder, and reinstalling through Steam (as per Evax's recommendation), did not help, and I'm still not able to start a new game, load a savegame, nor start creating a new map.
  • Copying the /info folder from the working copy of the game didn't work either. The photo is of my two machines running the same version of the game, with the same /info folder, on the same OS. Desktop on the right.
  • Here are my two /info folders for comparison.
  • I just noticed that after replacing the /info folder, while I still can't start a new single or multiplayer game, nor load a saved game, I can now create new maps in the World editor.

    Just thought you should know

Thank you for the info, we're still looking into what's going on!
  • If you need anything else from me (driver versions, installed apps, etc), just let me know
  • After the last update (to CS 0.7.9), an uninstall/delete folder/reinstall, I'm still unable to start a new game (both single and multiplayer), but I can start a new map, and load a saved game.
  • On a whim, I decided to unsubscribe from all Steam Workshop maps, and that fixed all issues with starting a new game.

Wow, that is GOOD info, thank you Stenpett.

I will forward this to our QA right away.

Hey Stenpett, I just thought about something!

Could you see if you can reproduce this? If you subscribe to a workshop map on Linux, does it cause the issue instantly?

Maybe only certain maps? Maybe maps with a weird name? Maybe older maps?

    Thank you!
  • Okay. I subscribed to the map "Bastion", and it did not provoke the bug. However, when I also subscribed to "Bridgetown", the Kraken was released, and no game was possible. I then removed "Bastion" and was again able to start a new game. After that, I subscribed to "Talon", and the bug was back. The bug persisted when I subscribed to another map ("World Conquest").

It would seem that subscribing to two or more maps, makes me unable to start a new game.

I've added the hardware report from the Ubuntu System Profiler, just for the record.

Thanks for these info, but unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce the bug.
    We are investigating!

    Thanks for the support Stenpett!
  • I had to change my hard disk, and thus do a reinstall of Ubuntu. After this, I've not had any issues.

    Good to hear, Stenpett.

    Sorry you struggled originally!
