[0.9.1] Bear Traps may need to give Biftron a temporary effect so it is worth building Bear Traps

Currently, we know the intended game mechanic of the Bear Traps is:

When a Biftron steps onto a Bear Trap, it destroys it. No repairs, no fixing, just poof. Gone for good.

I find this to be a bit jarring in Invasion and Conquest Modes, mainly because of the gameplay balance being lopsided. Why it is lopsided? There are 2 sides to consider when making Bear Traps:

Player's Side

The player needs to invest their time, mining the required resources to construct Bear Traps. This includes:
  • Iron (to make Iron Ingots)
  • Brimstone (to smelt Iron)
  • Stone (to make Furnace)
  • Time (the time it takes to bring 1 type of resource to the Bear Trap. Multiply by 2 for each resources required.)
  • Repair Time (to reset the Bear Traps after it has been activated)
Corruptron's Side
  • Need a Biftron. (it takes a while for them to start spawning, but once it starts spawning, it will always continue to spawn Biftrons)
  • Time (the amount of time to wait until Biftron starts appearing, is as soon as 1.5 in-game days).
I understand when Biftron appears, the game is serious about destroying the player's base. That is fine and dandy, but the primary reason why it is lopsided is because the amount of investment from both factions is unequal. Here, the player is at a disadvantage, because the consequences of a Biftron stepping onto a Bear Trap isn't worth constructing a Bear Trap in the first place.

Bear Traps have the following strengths and weaknesses:

Strength:
  • Bear Traps can slow down a wave of Corruptrons, preventing the players from being overwhelmed.
  • Bear Traps are useful in PvP combat, when it cannot be destroyed easily, and prevents opponents from swarming into the base quickly.
  • Bear Traps can be used as a surprise tactic when engaging opponents near a base.
Weakness:
  • High maintenance is required. Once a Bear Trap is activated, it needs to be manually reset (or wait until an automated task is assigned).
  • Bear Traps do not affect Biftrons at all.
  • It takes 1 quick step on the Bear Traps for Biftrons to destroy it completely.
  • Is a structure that puts Bricktrons at risk when assigned to manually reset them.
  • You need multiple Bear Traps to at least slow down a wave of Corruptrons.
  • It takes time and resources to construct 1 Bear Trap.
To summarize, I feel it is unreasonable for Biftrons to be completely invincible to Bear Traps, otherwise, the players would not have the incentive to construct Bear Traps at all.

Therefore, I would prefer suggesting that Bear Traps should put a temporary effect on the Biftrons. It will not damage Biftrons whatsoever, but rather, it should at least daze/confuse the Biftrons for a brief period of time upon being stepped on, getting destroyed in the process. Not enough time for the players to take an advantage of, but enough time for 1 Archer to land at least 2 free arrows from a distance about 15 voxels away from the Biftron, just to make the game a bit fair and reasonable. The Bear Traps are very strong, strong enough to temporarily immobilize Corruptrons and Mini Corruptrons.

Another way to think about why Bear Traps should confuse the Biftrons, is because it suddenly disappears underneath the Biftrons. The Biftrons should at least feel confused as to what they have stepped on, right?

Please take into consideration. Thanks for reading.

  • And one should be able to get them back from a biftron corpse. Either they stay where he died or they stay closed at the place he died. Which would need a bricktron to put them back in place.
And if it is really impossible to do that for you dev, make them do much more damages to the biftrons before they are destroyed.
In any case, I think the beartraps should do more damages.
  • Yeah due to the meta of the game being changed by the ward's system I think keeping the beartraps disposable but dish out more damage is a much more feasible idea.
