Workers carry sub-optimal resources for task

If I set up a construction task with a bunch of bear traps, workers will grab 5 iron and build one trap at a time rather than grabbing a full load (20 iron) and setting up 4 traps in succession. It is possible to micro the worker manually to grab the full 20 iron, but this seems to be more effort than it is worth.
