Ninja - Speed Is Key

This may be my first post, but I don't want you to go easy on me. Don't be afraid to tell me what you think of this idea.

The purpose of Ninjas is to ambush the enemy. Their super light suits of black fabric allow them to move quick using special footwear. They have an iron knife in their hand that doesn't do so much damage, but the speed makes up for it. Their armor can't withstand hits, but super stealth allows them to stay undetected by Corruptrons for some time. Because of this, they can attack those annoyances before they even notice what's going on!

Okay, you probably think this is the most useless kit ever, but read all the way to the end and see if I can change your mind.

Now, to create this kit, you simply need 2 rolls of fabric (for the suit) and one iron ingot (for the knife) to use at a workbench. Once crafted, apply it to one of your Bricktrons and witness the power of stealth!

A Ninja has high movement speed and attack speed, but low damage and health. These kits also remain "invisible" to an enemy once in its range for a short time, thus being able to attack the enemy without being noticed. If the Ninja attacks a target during this period, it will immediately end the "invisibility". In PvP, all players (including yourself) see only an outline of a Ninja during this period of "invisibility". Multiple strategies can use this feature to excel. An example is sending out a group of Ninjas toward an enemy, letting them play out some attacks, quickly ordering them to retreat, and repeating.

Ninjas also are able to jump over 1 px tall blocks to reach their target. Literally, they jump over them like they don't exist. They can also slowly climb up and down 2-3 px tall walls, which can be helpful in PvP. In attempts to climb blocks 4 px or higher, they climb only to slide down right away. After like half a second fallen on the ground, they slowly get back up. This can leave Ninjas wide open to attacks.

    *sigh* Will you please give more information other than that? You're supposed to read the discussion in depth. I said the unit is "invisible" for a short time, which means like 1.5 seconds or something like that.
  • Instead of having them be a boring microing specialty unit that will die in a few hits and only serve to distract; Why not have the ninjas be a support unit who is able to sabotage structures by making them unusable for a limited amount of time? Additionally you can have them only be spotted by the game's tower defense unit, CS's sentinel wards and temporarily after sabotaging a building. This means the unit rewards players who can micro in a more substantial way other than a crappy sneak attack that can be repelled by any armed unit in the game, or a civillian gangbang rush.

    So they won't be useless in Invasion mode single player you could also have them use special weapons that can slow down enemy units within a certain range for a limited amount of time.

    Yeah I'm practically completely retooling your unit idea into something else... But I just can't imagine any serious use for this unit aside from crappy Zerg Rushes ala Star Craft, or a niche flanking unit. Which I hate the presence of in any RTS. Like this not only does the Ninja unit become an actual saboteur and sneaky bastard like in real life, but he also doesn't become a boring two trick pony easily repelled.

  • There's no need to remake it as a new discussion. Unless the idea is completely different (no longer a ninja), then this topic is still the place for the discussion. You can edit your original post to add in, or modify your ideas how you see fit.
  • I think that they should just change the spear guy thats already in the game and give him more speed so he can be used to scout, and I really find the support like unit as said above interesting would like to see how that plays out
