Settings for Invasion Mode

Hi,

I would like to have some more settings for the Invasion Mode.

currently there is only the "preset"-difficulty, which means the starting conditions, right?

what would be with settings for "time between Waves" and "Wave Growing factor" as additional Settings?

  • If you can, get more specific with the options with these settings. If you just have to type in any number you want, what's stopping people from doing negative numbers to cancel it out? Why not make the Wave Growing Factor 1,000,000,000,000 and the Time Between Waves 0 seconds?

It's single player, let people play how they want...

I'm not sure what @TheRedSwordsman is saying.

You can modify the Lua preset files, or make new ones. Eventually, when the developers are less busy, I'll compile a list of all of the Lua settings.

Multiple RTS games with the ones being most notable to me being Empire Earth 1&2, Rise of Nations and Age Of Empires let you tweak difficulty settings in various ways. From map load out, to resource distribution, to victory conditions, starting resources and units down to how much you want the AI to cheat. Having these being available for the player instead of something they have to fiddle around with old school style like back in the days of ".ini" file mods is, and shouldn't be frowned upon.

Of course letting the players mess with the Lua settings directly if they want, should still be an available option, but just telling players that's their only option is really anti-consumer IMHO. Still though I'm glad that the wiki is at least getting archives for LUA presets players can look up.

    edit:corrected grammar mistake
  • Likely, more functionality could be added to the game, but with the release of 1.0, that is clearly not a priority.

@cetrix787 is saying that he wants additional settings for Invasion.
This person states that "Time Between Waves" and "Wave Growing Factor" should be additional settings for Invasion.
I'm saying that he needs to get more specific for these two examples. I don't know if you just type in a number for the setting, or there are options (i.e., 1 minute, 20, 45 seconds, etc.). Suppose there are options. What should they be? Suppose you type in a number. Is there a maximum and minimum number you can type in as the setting? If there isn't, what's stopping people from doing -26 seconds for "Time Between Waves" and 974,324,426,368,732 for "Wave Growing Factor".

You probably don't' get what I mean. I understand that. Nobody ever does.
    Peace out! :smirk:
  • If somebodey wants to set it to negative number , he can also play sandbox. So , I don't know what would be sense of that.

What I mean is, I would like to try things like for example: having more time between waves , but the waves growing faster

It doens't have to be a number I can enter. It could also be a difficulty in that settings.
For exapmple: Time Between Waves, easy means 10 minutes and medium means 7 minutes and so on.

If there is alreay a way through script files, I didn't know. But not everyone is trying to edit script files.

Since I've played alot of RTS games, specially those of the 4x variety I figured this is what you meant already to be honest...

He doesn't need to go more in-depth. His point is he thinks the options should be added. He incites discussion through sharing his idea, but the idea's implementation can be left up to the developers to determine.

Imagine your Ninja idea. If what you truly wanted was a new unit which was fast, but weak, used for picking off high value targets, then that's all that needs to be said to start the discussion. You chose to elaborate further, because you had an idea of the implementation.

In this case, the game mechanic in question is straightforward and doesn't need any clarity on implementation. My confusion of his post was due to the wording. "Wave Growing factor" doesn't tell me what setting that is. I don't know if he means the number of enemies in each successive wave, or the strength of enemies, or the time between waves.

As @cetrix787 clarifies above, he is looking for an in-game solution to be implemented by the developers. He doesn't care how it's implemented, but he doesn't want to have to fiddle with Lua presets.
