Tunneling physics bug, or feature, or bug turned into feature?

So while tunneling I had these interesting things happen in the pictures related. I also uploaded a phantom diagram of my tunnels so you can see that I made sure I'm not digging a trench. As you can see I made sure there's a roof above the tunnel.

    it's normal, will just happen at the crossroads.
    Just dig a little deeper before u start diggin.
    Physics, that's all.
